ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS

Have a Class A learner’s permit

Trainee/Student must have a valid driver’s license and a valid Class A learner’s permit prior to the start of the program. Both your active license and active Class A learner’s permit must not expire prior to the program completion and testing date(s).

Be at least 18 years of age

Trainee/Student must be at least 18-20 years of age to be eligible for intrastate operation only (within the domicile state). Trainees/Students 21 years of age and older will be eligible for interstate operation (between states).

Have a DOT medical certificate

To enroll in a training program, every student must obtain a valid DOT medical certificate prior to the start of the program and pass the pre-enrollment drug screening. Students are responsible for the drug screening fee and/or the DOT physical medical exam fee.

Be able to read and speak English

Per the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), a CDL driver/applicant must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public. FMCSA regulation 49 CFR 391.11

Not be disqualified from obtaining a CDL license

All trainees/students must comply with FMCSA regulations 49 CFR 383.51 and Code of Massachusetts Regulations 540 CMR 2.06 regarding disqualifications from obtaining/holding a commercial driver license or commercial learner’s permit. Please refer to the Excel CDL Driving School Student Handbook Page 6 for a detailed list of disqualifications and disqualifying offenses.
